Community Liaison Officer - Kisumu

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies to raise awareness about Research, SRH, Contraceptives, PrEP and the research study.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Organize and facilitate community outreach events, workshops, and informational sessions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for community members, addressing questions, concerns, and feedback about the research study.
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure community perspectives are integrated into study design and implementation.
  • Monitor and evaluate community engagement activities to ensure effectiveness and inclusivity.
  • Advocate for the needs and interests of the community within the research clinic.
  • Maintain accurate records of community interactions and outreach activities.
  • Ensure participant recruitment and retention activities are in line with the site
  • Oversee, mentor and support the outreach team in their community engagement and participant recruitment/retention efforts.
  • Represent the study management in community meetings
  • Establish and coordinate the site's CAB and related activities as per the CAB Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Formulate the study recruitment and retention plans, monitor & evaluate and provide technical support to achieve study targets.

1 Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Mandatory
2 Minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, public health, or a related role. Mandatory
3 Strong understanding of HIV prevention, FP/PrEP, and related public health issues. Mandatory
4 Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. Mandatory
5 Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including vulnerable groups. Mandatory
6 Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Mandatory
7 Proficiency in local language is an asset. Mandatory
8 Knowledge of research ethics and Good Participatory Practice is a plus. Mandatory
9 Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP) certification Mandatory
10 Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Mandatory
11 Ability to convey complex medical and scientific information in an accessible and culturally appropriate manner. Mandatory
12 Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Mandatory
13 Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations, including marginalized and at-risk communities. Mandatory
14 Empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution skills. Mandatory
15 Demonstrated understanding of cultural, social, and economic factors affecting health behaviors. Mandatory
16 Experience working with diverse communities and vulnerable groups. Mandatory
17 Strong planning, time management, and multitasking abilities. Mandatory
18 Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Mandatory
19 Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Mandatory
20 Strong advocacy skills to represent community needs within the research team. Mandatory
21 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Mandatory
22 Familiarity with data collection and reporting tools is a plus. Mandatory
23 Master’s Degree is an added advantage. Added Advantage
