Key Responsibilities:

  • ii.Performing study specific assays, viral loads, UECs, CBC, CD4 count Malaria tests, Blood sugar, microscopy etc
  • iii.Conducting screening and diagnostic tests for priority conditions in accordance with established protocols.
  • iv.Sample collection and handling: DBS for viral sequencing (VS) and pharmacokinetics (PK), Phlebotomy whole blood for viral load analysis and Infant DBS for Early Infant HIV Diagnosis, Hair samples preparation and storage etc
  • v.Performing maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment’s
  • vi.Ensuring appropriate Laboratory Waste segregation and management
  • vii.Accurate reporting of lab results within acceptable turnaround time.
  • viii.Perform laboratory ART assays as per the study protocol
  • ix.Must participate in EQA Proficiency testing scheme
  • x.Ensures adequate quality assurance measures with respect to reagents, equipment, and samples are observed
  • xi.Safe maintenance of accurate laboratory documents and Logs
  • xii.Work professionally and observe relevant ethical standards, competence, accountability and integrity
  • xiii.Generate daily summary reports in real time
  • xiv.Other duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator

Vacancy Requirements:

1 i.Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from KMTC or recognized training institution. Mandatory
2 ii.Registered member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) Mandatory
3 iii.Articulate in both verbal and written communication in English and Swahili. Mandatory
4 i.Trained on Good clinical and laboratory practice (GCLP) Mandatory
5 ii.Previous experience in a busy HIV laboratory Mandatory
6 iii.Experience in rapid antibody HIV testing and counseling skills Mandatory
7 iv.Experience in community work Mandatory
8 v.Proficiency in the use of data collection tools such as REDcAP, ODK and COMMCARE Mandatory
9 vi.Experience in viral load sample collection and management Mandatory
10 vii.Laboratory Good Documentation Practices (GDP) Mandatory
11 viii.Knowledge of commodity management Mandatory
12 ix.Experience in Rapid Diagnostic Test for Malaria, and Blood sugar Mandatory
13 x.Ability to work extra hours in the rural Migori County Mandatory
14 xi.Enthusiasm for community-based development work. Mandatory
15 xii.Natural ability to multitask, innovative, and work with others as a team to achieve objectives and resolve challenges Mandatory
